Vice president to visit Dominican Republic, Belize next week: gov't

The China Post--Vice President Wu Den-yih (吳敦義) will visit two of Taiwan's Central American allies, the Dominican Republic and Belize, next week during a 12-day-tour as a special envoy of President Ma Ying-jeou, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) announced yesterday. Wu and a delegation will attend the Dominican Republic's President-elect Danilo Medina's inauguration ceremony, Vice Foreign Minister Simon Ko announced yesterday at a press conference in the Presidential Office.
The vice president will also be visiting Belize during his upcoming trip between Aug. 13 to 24, Ko noted.
The delegation will feature MOFA officials as well as two high-ranking Taiwanese officials, Cabinet-level Overseas Chinese Affairs Commission Chairman Wu Ying-yi (吳英毅), and Council of Labor Affairs Minister Wang Ju-hsuan (王如玄), among others.
The delegation will be holding national banquets in both Central American countries and meet overseas Taiwanese during its stay there, the vice minister added.
The delegation led by Wu is expected to make a stopover in New York en route to the Dominican Republic, Ko said. It will make another transit stop in Los Angeles after it concludes the Central American tour before heading home to Taiwan.
Ko, however, refused to disclose Wu's schedule during his stopovers in American soil. Instead he reiterated that the MOFA will arrange the vice president's trip based on the principles of comfort, convenience, security and dignity for the traveler.
