POLITICIANS AND THE SMALL ECONOMY WE HAVE IN BELIZE!

SOME THINGS THE NEW UDP POLITICIANS SHOULD LEARN FROM HISTORY!

"The budget should be balanced, the Treasury should be refilled, public
debt should be reduced, the arrogance of officialdom should be tempered and
controlled, and the assistance to foreign lands should be curtailed lest
Rome become bankrupt. People must again learn to work, instead of living
on public assistance."

Cicero - 55 BC

> You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich.
> You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong.
> You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift.
> You cannot lift the wage earner up by pulling the wage payer down.
> You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred.
> You cannot build character and courage by taking away men's initiative and
> independence.
> You cannot help men permanently by doing for them, what they could and
> should do
> for themselves.
> --Abraham Lincoln

Around the Post Office steps in San Ignacio Town in 2008, the gossip and rumors went like this.
Some UDP Cabinet Minister is refusing Western Belizeans EXPORT PERMITS, unless they raise their price on export items by 35% and give him 30% baksheesh. They are still complaining about Certificates of Origin costs and delays.
The Mennonite producers in the HEARTLAND of BELIZE have the only good roads in the nation of Belize. They maintain and build them themselves.
Don't even talk about the ripoff in port of Belize City container loading charges, they are so ridiculous as to be worse than rip off. Houston, such fees are $65 usa and down in our port they are rumored to be $500 usa paid in usa currency, which it is illegal to own here. Very difficult if not near impossible to get such currency. How to export goods? Can't do it by container and ships, so how?
GREAT WAY OUR UDP GOVERNMENT IS ENCOURAGING EXPORTS AND THE ECONOMY HEY? Of course, the Post Office corner is a well noted complainers corner anyway.
